Generating a (TOC) Table of Contents

The Table of Contents

During single-page or page-based conversion, RiverDocs Document Converter automatically generates a table of contents (TOC) for the converted document based on its headings, which you can view and edit in the Table of Contents pane by clicking the TOC button in the Main toolbar.

When you edit and re-order headings in the TOC view pane, their hyperlink targets are not affected - in other words, clicking one of the edited links in the published version will take the reader to the same part of the document as before. One of the advantages of RiverDocs web documents is that they can be loaded and perused online as a single page, but you may prefer to keep the ‘feel’ of numbered pages by preserving the numbered page links in the TOC.

If you opt to convert in section-based publishing mode, a TOC is created from your Section splitting threshold setting, rather than dynamically from the document’s existing heading hierarchy (see fig. 10). You can view this TOC, but not edit it. More information on setting publish mode options.
